Jenni: I am sorry to have to post this here, but I couldn't find any other way to reach you! I took your class at BPS and it was wonderful. I am writing regarding the following:
Over the past two years, the Duluth, MN Affiliate of the Young Survival Coalition has raised more than $16,000 for young women with breast cancer through scrapbooking events. Our success would never have been possible without the support of organizations such as yours. This year we are expecting 50 scrapbooking and stamping enthusiasts to participate in our 15 hour event. During that time, they will enjoy goodie bags, classes, meals, a silent auction, and prizes for those who raise the most money for the YSC. We are asking for your support this year. Please consider contributing items for 50 goody bags or one larger item to be used as a prize or part of the silent auction.

In the past, we have traveled to the Craft and Hobby Association trade show in order to meet face to face with our donors and tell our story. As often is the case in life, we hit a few bumps in the road. Due to the fact that CHA was moved to Florida this year, the cost of traveling prohibited us from coming. In addition, one of our event Co-Chairs, Julie Bates, was diagnosed with a recurrence of her breast cancer in July. Obviously everything was put on hold to deal with the crisis. Since July Julie has undergone a bilateral mastectomy and is getting ready to face treatment with chemotherapy beginning in September. True to Julie’s always indomitable spirit, she declared that the event would go on as planned. Even in the middle of her own cancer battle she is concerned about helping other women and keeping our Affiliate functioning.

This year, the funds raised at our scrapbooking events have enabled us to do the following:

Place over 75 Newly Diagnosed Resource Kits filled with valuable information into the hands of young women diagnosed with breast cancer throughout our service area.

Fund scholarships for seven women to attend the Annual Conference for Young Women Affected by Breast Cancer.

Produce educational programs such as: the Genetics of Breast Cancer and Understanding Your Reconstruction Options.

Open the doors to our new office in February 2009.

With the help of companies such as yours, we are reaching our goal, Julie’s goal, of changing the experience of young women diagnosed with breast cancer for the better. We hope that you will help us make this year’s event even more successful than the last.

Your generous donations can be shipped directly to our office at:

Young Survival Coalition Duluth, 10 E. Superior St., Suite #203, Duluth, MN 55802

Sincerely,

Alane Davis, 10 Year Survivor
Program Manager, YSC Duluth

P.S: You donated last year (thank you!) and I made sure and won everything for myself :)
